How a battle works

1 · Enter The Pit

You come in as a HOOD. Battles are 8 bars. You're matched with the next player in the pit, and the sides — who asks, who answers — are drawn at random.

2 · Two rounds, listen once

Round 1: one side plays over the beat and submits a take. The other side hears it once, then answers on the same beat. Round 2: the sides swap. After each round, both of you give the other side 1 to 3 stars.

3 · The reveal

Names, all four takes, the stars, Re-Takes and messages come out together. More stars wins. Equal stars is a draw.

When it's your turn you have 24 hours to start it. Once you start, you have 4 minutes to submit.

The idea

A city where every name was taken

Everyone here wears the same hood. No face, no history, no seniority. Someone with twenty years and someone who bought their first deck last year walk into the same room in the same shape — your identity is your hands.

At the top of the city there is a throne with one seat. Whoever sits there is the only person everyone knows by name, and the only one everyone is watching.

The King is the Hood with a crown

The King is not a different character. It is the same hood wearing a crown, and the crown can come off in a single night. Its colour is taken from the LEDs on a real mixer — in this world, every light comes from the equipment.

Want a face? Upload a photo and it becomes a 64×64 pixel portrait on your own machine. The original never leaves it.

Winning here is expensive

Nothing stops you from rating low to push yourself up. There is no anti-cheat and there are no locks. The game just writes everything down and shows it to everyone at the reveal: who met whom, who gave whom how many stars, who hit Re-Take, who wrote what.

Every rule in this game is enforced by people, not by code.

What the mask does

A former champion walks in wearing the same hood as everyone else, and nobody steps aside. An unknown answers him cleanly, and he has to choose: three honest stars, or one star and wait for the table to open at the end.

The mask does not make people better or worse. It removes the excuses.

Why it is built this way

Real vinyl is the heart of it. DVS is an option, not the main road — nothing is detected, and nothing is banned.

What you can play today

  • The Pit — the quick match. One battle at a time, 8 bars, sides drawn at random.
  • Played in your own time. When it is your turn you have 24 hours to start it; once you start, 4 minutes to submit.
  • Nothing counts toward a ranking yet. The Pit in this beta is for the sound and for the testing.
  • Invite only, and a Google or Discord account to sign in.

What comes after

  • The season — eight weeks of weekly ladder, four weeks of the official tour, then The Cut, then the throne.
  • The Title match — the only battle in the game where both names are open from the start.
  • Respect — a point you can only give to someone else, never take, and never buy.
  • The City — the room outside the pit, where names are open again.

None of this is live yet. The beta exists to find out what the rules do with real players.
